BNI Supports SOE Volunteers to Samboja and IKN, Orangutan and Mangrove Rehabilitation

18/05/2024. JAKARTA - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI has contributed to the success of the Relawan Bakti BUMN Program Batch V initiated by the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (KBUMN). This program aims to rehabilitate orangutan and mangrove habitats in Samboja and the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan.

The Relawan Bakti BUMN Program Batch V lasted three days, from May 20 to 22, 2024. BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo explained that this program is part of BNI's commitment to carrying out Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) in collaboration with Hutama Karya.

“This activity is a form of BNI collaboration with Hutama Karya in the context of implementing SOE TJSL for Indonesia,” said Okki.

The main focus of the Relawan Bakti BUMN Program Batch V is orangutan and mangrove rehabilitation in Samboja and IKN. The activities include rehabilitation of endangered Bornean orangutans in their habitat, as well as community empowerment around IKN.

“As PIC in this program, BNI together with Hutama Karya as Co-PIC provide enthusiasm and full support to volunteers to participate in this activity,” Okki explained.

Furthermore, Okki explained, the volunteers will participate in various educational activities, such as learning how to prepare orangutan natural food, helping to improve the infrastructure of the conservation area, understanding the role of rehabilitation officers, getting to know more about the National Capital at the construction site, and planting mangrove trees.

Through this activity, the volunteers are expected to understand the importance of orangutan and mangrove conservation in maintaining the balance of the forest ecosystem, as well as its impact on the environment and humans. In addition, the volunteers will also plant mangrove trees in the IKN buffer zone.

Okki added that this program is expected to make a positive contribution to the community, not only during the implementation of the Relawan Bakti BUMN program, but also after the volunteers return to their respective companies, by transmitting the social spirit to their colleagues.

“Hopefully this program can continue and provide many positive benefits for all of us,” concluded Okki.
