BNI Achieves Zero Waste to Landfill, Creating an Eco-Friendly Office

PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI continues to demonstrate its commitment as a pioneer of sustainable finance in Indonesia by implementing the Zero Waste to Landfill principle in five Head Office Buildings as of March 2025. This program has been implemented since the end of 2024 and continues to be refined until now, involving all employees at the head office. The real achievement of this program is BNI's success in preventing emissions (avoidance emission) of 210,502 Kg CO2 eq since this program was implemented.

"Zero Waste to Landfill encourages waste management through three methods, namely reduce, reuse, and recycle. In other words, 100% of waste is managed through recycling, composting, reuse, or other processes that do not involve disposal to landfills," said BNI Risk Management Director David Pirzada in a written statement.

David said that waste management at BNI is currently focused on efforts to reduce the use of plastic packaging and the recycling process for the waste produced. Waste processing is carried out through a composting process for organic waste, a recycling process for inorganic waste, and Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) for residual waste.

These waste processing efforts are also supported by the availability of waste sorting infrastructure in the form of trash bins with three waste categories, as well as an active campaign to all employees to jointly reduce the use of plastic packaging.
"This success was only possible because of the awareness and new habits built together by all BNI employees," he said.

David emphasized that this initiative is part of the implementation of Green Lifestyle in the BNI work environment, namely an environmentally friendly lifestyle by disposing of waste according to categorization (organic, inorganic, and residue), saving water use, and not using Bottled Drinking Water (AMDK) in daily activities.

"The Green Lifestyle culture that has grown among employees is a strong foundation in implementing BNI's comprehensive sustainability transformation," he added.
