BNI and BNI Ventures Launch Paper Dropbox, Promoting Circular Economy in Office Environment

PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BNI, and its subsidiary, BNI Ventures, are strengthening their commitment to sustainability by launching the Dropbox Paper Waste program within their offices. This initiative is part of a series of commemorations for National Waste Awareness Day (HPSN), which falls on February 21, 2026, and an effort to build a circular economy-based waste management ecosystem within the BNI Group.

Two drop boxes have been placed at Grha BNI at Dukuh Atas and Menara BNI at Pejompongan, Jakarta. This program aims to encourage employees and the surrounding community to sort and manage paper waste responsibly to prevent it from ending up in landfills.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said the initiative is a concrete manifestation of BNI's commitment to integrating sustainability principles into the company's operations.

"More than just providing a disposal facility, this program is a concrete step by BNI Group in supporting the circular economy while also reducing the burden on increasingly critical landfills in major cities." The momentum of HPSN serves as a reminder that waste management is a shared responsibility," said Okki in a written statement.

Papers collected through drop boxes are not thrown away, but recycled into planting paper—handmade papers that contain plant seeds and can grow after use. Transforming office paper waste into this environmentally friendly product is expected to add value and extend the material's life cycle.

Separately, Eddi Danusaputro, representing BNI Ventures, stated that his party's involvement is part of its strategic role in encouraging innovative, sustainability-based solutions within the BNI Group.

This program is also implemented through a strategic partnership with PaperPods, a startup that introduced the first circular paper dropbox in Indonesia. This solution enables corporations to channel paper waste for handmade recycling by skilled female artisans, while simultaneously empowering community groups.

The entire management process is equipped with a digital tracking system to transparently measure environmental impacts, from the amount of paper diverted from landfills, estimated carbon emissions (CO) avoided, to the number of trees potentially saved.

BNI hopes to expand its circular economy-based waste management effort to more work units and the public by collaborating with its parent company, subsidiaries, and sustainability startup partners. This initiative emphasizes that environmentally friendly practices are not merely ceremonial programs, but rather part of a measurable, sustainable business strategy with long-term impact.
