PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI strengthens its commitment to environmental preservation by holding a series of beach cleanup actions on the occasion of National Waste Care Day (HPSN) 2026. Since early February, BNI, along with the environmental community Malu Dong, has successfully removed 423 kilograms of waste, predominantly plastic waste, from the Mertasari Beach area in Sanur, Bali.
Corporate Secretary of BNI, Okki Rushartomo, stated that the action is part of the company's ongoing efforts to encourage a change in public behavior toward waste management.
"Through collaboration with communities and society, BNI aims to encourage behavioral change in waste management while also raising collective awareness about the importance of preserving the environment," said Okki in a written statement.
The collected waste is then sorted and distributed to managers for recycling. This initiative doesn't stop with the beach clean-up, but continues in a series of peak HPSN activities on February 20–22, 2026.
For three days, BNI holds various activities, starting from technical coordination with stakeholders, environmental education for MSME actors in the Mertasari Beach area, to outreach to students of SD Negeri 11 Sanur about the importance of sorting waste from an early age.
BNI also provides a number of sanitation aid items, including trash bins of various sizes, environmental education boards, volunteer vests, trash bags, tumblers, and cleaning equipment to local schools and communities. This support aims to strengthen sustainable community-based waste management systems.
The beach cleanup involving volunteers and residents of Sanur Kauh Village is part of strengthening cross-stakeholder collaboration, while also supporting the tourism sector, which relies on a clean coastal environment.
Okki pointed out that this activity is an implementation of BNI's consistent Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. He believes that sustainability can only be achieved through synergy between various elements of society.
"This activity is a tangible manifestation of BNI's commitment to supporting environmental preservation while also strengthening cross-party collaboration so that waste management can be carried out sustainably," he emphasized.
He added that the initiative aligns with the national development agenda, which highlights inclusive and sustainable economic growth, including maintaining environmental quality in coastal areas that are the mainstay of economic and tourism activities.
Through this series of actions, BNI hopes that public awareness of waste management will continue to increase, thereby creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environmental ecosystem, while also supporting the long-term economic productivity of local communities.
