BNI Strengthens Athlete Development, Indonesia's Badminton Achievements Continue to Shine on the World Stage

PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BNI, continues to strengthen its commitment to supporting the development of national badminton athletes through a strategic partnership with the Indonesian Badminton Association. This ongoing support is seen as having contributed to the achievements of Indonesian athletes at international events in recent years.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said the company’s support for badminton is part of its long-term commitment to fostering young athletes so they can compete on the world stage.

“BNI’s support is expected to serve as a boost of motivation for the athletes to continue training and achieve success at the international level,” Okki said in a written statement.

According to Okki, for more than five years, BNI has consistently supported the development of badminton, both at the national and international levels. This support is manifested through athlete development programs conducted in collaboration with PBSI to ensure the next generation of players and the continued success of Indonesia in this sport.

Indonesian athletes achieved a number of significant milestones during that period. At the Tokyo Olympics 2020, which took place in 2021, Indonesia won a gold medal in the women’s doubles and a bronze medal in the men’s singles.

Indonesia also successfully won the Thomas Cup 2021 title, before finishing as runner-up in the 2022 edition. At the Badminton Asia Team Championships 2022, the Indonesian women’s team emerged as champions, while the men’s team finished as runners-up.

In 2024, Indonesian badminton once again captured the world’s attention with Jonatan Christie’s victory in the men’s singles event at the All England Open 2024, after defeating fellow Indonesian Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the all-Indonesian final. The title ended Indonesia’s 30-year wait since Hariyanto Arbi’s last victory in 1994.

In the men's doubles event, Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto successfully defended their All England title after defeating Malaysia's Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik. This result also secured Indonesia the overall title at the All England 2024.

Another achievement came from Gregoria Mariska Tunjung who successfully won a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, while also becoming the first Indonesian women's singles player to win an Olympic medal since Maria Kristin Yulianti at the Beijing Olympics 2008.

The regeneration of young athletes also continues to show positive developments. Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin finished runner-up at the Indonesia Masters 2026, while the women's doubles pair Isyana Sahira Meida/Rinjani K. Nastine reached the quarterfinals of the 500-level event for the first time at the Thailand Open 2026. In the men's doubles event, Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin also reached the semifinals of the tournament.

BNI believes these achievements demonstrate the importance of sustainable sports development to maintain Indonesia's global competitiveness. The company affirmed its continued support for the development of young athletes as part of its contribution to the advancement of national sports.

Through its long-term collaboration with PBSI, BNI hopes that the Indonesian badminton development ecosystem will continue to grow, producing more accomplished athletes who will represent Indonesia on the global stage.
