BNI Encourages the Younger Generation to Be Financially Savvy in the Digital Era

PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BNI, is encouraging the younger generation to cultivate healthy financial management habits from an early age through the Lampung Financial Festival 2026 series at Novotel Bandar Lampung on Sunday (9/6/2026).

In the "Business Talks – Panel Discussion 1: The Bankers" session, BNI—represented by Bagus Ardani Sutoyo, Regional CEO of BNI Region 03—discussed the younger generation's readiness to face economic and financial developments in the digital era.

The discussion highlighted the importance of financial literacy amidst the increasing ease of access to financial services and digital transactions. Young people need the ability to manage their finances, understand financial products, and make decisions aligned with their needs and long-term goals.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo stated that the convenience of conducting transactions must be balanced with financial management discipline. This habit can be cultivated by understanding income and expenditure flows, distinguishing between needs and wants, and setting aside funds for savings and financial goals.

“Sound financial management can begin with understanding one’s personal financial situation, planning income and expenses, and keeping one’s lifestyle in check. Make it a habit to set aside money for savings as soon as you receive income, build an emergency fund, and use debt wisely so as not to compromise essential needs,” said Okki in a written statement.

According to Okki, this habit needs to be reinforced by an understanding of financial products and services. It is not enough for the public to simply know how to use banking services; they also need to understand the benefits, risks, and how well these services align with their individual financial situations.

With that understanding, financial decisions can be made based on needs and goals, rather than solely on ease of access.

In addition to panel discussions, BNI also equipped the younger generation through educational classes on financial management amidst rising digital activity. This education emphasizes the importance of safeguarding personal data and banking information, recognizing various fraud schemes, and ensuring that all financial information and offers originate from official sources.

“BNI supports improving financial literacy among the younger generation through products and programs that help build saving habits from an early age—ranging from Taplus Anak and Taplus Muda to wondrZ, which enables children to learn financial management under parental supervision. This support is further reinforced by the ‘Life Goals’ feature in wondr and direct educational outreach through the ‘BNI Goes to School’ program,” said Okki.

According to Okki, financial and digital literacy serve as vital assets for the younger generation in navigating rapidly accelerating economic changes. The ability to manage finances effectively will better prepare them to seize various opportunities while maintaining financial resilience.

As a state-owned enterprise within Indonesia's Danantara ecosystem, BNI continues to support the enhancement of human resource quality by expanding financial literacy and financial inclusion, as well as promoting the responsible use of digital services.

BNI believes that a combination of sound financial management, digital literacy, and a willingness to keep learning can serve as a foundation for the younger generation to build financial independence while contributing to national economic growth.
