14/12/2023. PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk supported by the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs and in collaboration with Perdami (Association of Indonesian Eye Specialist Doctors) Papua Branch, Biddokkes Polda Papua, and YPP SCTV Indosiar held a Cataract Surgery Social Service on December 13-15, 2023 at Bhayangkara Hospital, Jayapura City.
This activity was carried out in order to help people prevent vision problems so they can carry out normal activities. This social service included 8 officers (doctors, nurses) who took part in the operation and targeted 100 patients' eyes. Most cataract surgery patients are elderly and underprivileged.
Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Tri Rismaharini, inspected the implementation of the Cataract Surgery Social Service at Bhayangkara Hospital, Jayapura City on Thursday (12/13/2023) accompanied by the Head of BNI Papua Region and the Director of Bhayangkara Hospital, Jayapura City.
Tri Rismaharini, also known as Risma, took the time to greet the patients who were in the waiting room. Cataract surgery patients appreciate the availability of activities that benefit cataract patients because the visual impairment they encounter reduces their productivity.
With this Cataract Surgery Social Service, it is hoped that it will be able to prevent cataract sufferers from becoming blind due to the effects of cataracts as well as boost increase their productivity and wellbeing in the future.
This social service at Bhayangkara Hospital, Jayapura City was one of the BNI Berbagi Programs for health. This activity was a series of Cataract Operation Social Services in four locations in Eastern Indonesia with a target of 450 eyes.
Cataract is a degenerative condition characterized by clouding in the lens of the eye, causing decreased visual ability to the point of blindness.
BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said that efforts to prevent blindness due to cataracts are the responsibility of all parties.
The Company strives to proactively improve the quality of public health while reducing the rate of blindness due to cataracts in Indonesia.
“We realize that cataracts are an eye disorder that might limit people's activities. Even though surgery is possible, not everyone can get access to good health facilities. "Hopefully our program can benefit the entire community and become a model for many economic actors," he stated.
