BNI's Digital Ambassadors Help Hong Kong Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) Become Financially Literate

PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI continues to embrace Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in Hong Kong in providing a deeper understanding of financial and banking products in Indonesia by presenting the Digital Ambassador program.

Digital Ambassadors represent Indonesian migrant workers who are equipped with the knowledge to help other migrant workers gain comprehensive financial literacy.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said, digital ambassadors carry out activities in the form of introducing banking products, how to transact safely, providing knowledge about investment, as well as getting to know BNI as a global bank that has complete digital solutions.

“PMI customers are now very easy to transact even through our latest mobile banking wondr by BNI. Many of them have also started investments such as stocks. We want the money they earn to not just sit idle, but be well invested for their future,” said Okki.

The Digital Ambassador program is designed to enable migrant workers to manage their financial portfolios wisely. That way, these migrant workers not only work hard abroad, but can also enjoy the fruits of their labor in a more planned and profitable way.

This step is in line with the government's efforts through the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI)/ Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) in empowering PMI after completing work abroad and resettling in Indonesia.

By leveraging a variety of digital financial services provided by BNI, they can be more flexible in managing their finances independently. BNI hopes that PMIs can take advantage of existing banking facilities to better manage and plan their finances, ensuring that the results of their hard work are not in vain.

“BNI banking facilities can provide many benefits, especially in terms of ease of managing finances and freedom to transact in a safer and more efficient way,” said Okki.

Currently, there are 100 PMI Digital Ambassadors in Hong Kong, of which half are classified as active in conducting education. Until the end of 2024, the number of new accounts at BNI Hong Kong totaled 8,500 accounts so that the total PMI accounts reached 74 thousand or dominated banking transactions by PMI and diaspora in the country.
