27/10/2023. PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI proactively supports the government's efforts in creating Indonesia's green economy ecosystem. This can be seen by the company's green bond issuance, which has exceeded Rp 5 trillion.
The green bonds issued have had a positive impact on reducing BNI's emission production. BNI Risk Management Director David Pirzada said that by issuing green bonds, the company can reduce emissions.
"We are quite proud because with green bonds, our total emission reduction reaches more than 230 thousand tons of carbon per year. We can also improve around 314 thousand hectares in the forest concession project,” said David at the BNI Investor Daily Summit 2023.
Furthermore, David believes that strengthening green portfolios like this will continue to be promoted so as to accelerate the creation of a green economy ecosystem in Indonesia. In fact, the government is preparing various incentives for companies so as to stimulate interest for emission reduction in Indonesia.
BNI also seeks to proactively invite partner companies to implement green economy practices through financing from the proceeds of green bond emissions. In parallel to financing, BNI also provides targets to customers for the implementation of waste management, operations and others that lead to emission reduction.
" If they can achieve the target, we provide incentives in terms of pricing, such as lower interest rates,” said David.
David added that the company believes the green economy will have a positive impact on economic growth. According to studies, Indonesia's GDP will increase by about six percent and new jobs will be created by an additional 15 percent until 2045.
“That's why this will be very good and needs support,” he said.
