25/02/2024. The Financial Services Authority (OJK) and PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BNI) are jointly expanding the reach of financial literacy. The program has now reached the Indonesian diaspora abroad.
In relation to this program, BNI and OJK held an event entitled “Financial Planning Education for Hong Kong's Diaspora” which was held on Sunday, February 25, 2024. This event targeted various segments of the diaspora in Hong Kong.
Present at the event were the Executive Head of Financial Services Business Conduct Supervision, Consumer Education and Protection of OJK Friderica Widyasari Dewi, Customs Consul Ristola Nainggolan; General Manager Investor & Finance Education Council Dora Li; and BNI Network & Services Director Ronny Venir.
Also present were Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI), Indonesian students, and diaspora entrepreneurs in Hong Kong offline and online.
Friderica, also known as Kiki, stated that the OJK received several case reports regarding investment fraud and illegal online loans experienced by the public. Unfortunately, the same modus operandi also extended to Indonesian migrant workers and diaspora abroad.
“Therefore, OJK and BNI work together to consistently provide financial planning education for the Indonesian diaspora abroad, including migrant workers in Hong Kong. This program is clear evidence of how BNI implements the Financial Literacy and Consumer Protection functions for its customers abroad,” said Kiki.
Meanwhile, Ronny Venir said, BNI is a state-owned bank with a Go Global mandate that is committed to contributing optimally to the Indonesian diaspora around the world.
“The diaspora, including PMI, has made an extraordinary contribution to state revenue through remittances which in turn has helped boost foreign exchange. Of course, as a bank that has networks in numerous countries, BNI has the responsibility to ensure that the diaspora is educated about good financial management and investment,” said Ronny
KUR & BNI Simponi
Ronny added, BNI provides People's Business Credit (KUR) for PMI families in Indonesia to avoid harmful illegal online loans. BNI KUR can be channeled to PMI families who have businesses in Indonesia so that they can develop their businesses.
“Today BNI symbolically handed over KUR to Mrs. Pariati who is also a BNI Digital Ambassador in Hong Kong. Thanks to her hard work for 20 years, Mrs. Pariati and her family have owned a gas station and boarding house business in Blitar, East Java. Hopefully KUR BNI can further advance the business of Mrs. Pariati and her family, especially when she returns to Indonesia,” said Ronny.
Meanwhile, as a trusted investment solution, BNI consistently socializes BNI Simponi among Hong Kong PMI. Now, BNI Simponi can be accessed from anywhere and anytime through the BNI Mobile Banking application.
“Hopefully in the future there will be no more Indonesian migrant workers and diaspora who are entangled in financial cases. Thank you for the trust of Mrs. Kiki and OJK who always invite BNI as a partner in delivering financial literacy and consumer protection messages throughout Indonesia and even abroad,” said Ronny.
