BNI's Commitment to Fighting Online Gambling Blocks 214 Accounts Suspected of Involvement

(11/7/2024) - JAKARTA - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI has shown its commitment to combatting online gambling by blocking 214 accounts suspected of being involved in the illicit activity. This is a concrete manifestation of BNI in supporting the government's efforts to create a healthy digital ecosystem free from gambling practices that disrupt the community.

BNI President Director Royke Tumilaar confirmed that the accounts were blocked at the request of the Ministry of Communication and Information, as well as law enforcement personnel authorized to address online gambling violations.

"BNI fully supports the efforts to eradicate online gambling and is always proactive in following up on every request to block accounts from the authorities," said Royke.

Based on company data, the trend of blocked accounts shows an increase. In the January to December 2023 period, BNI has blocked 106 accounts related to online gambling. Meanwhile, in the period from January to June 2024, BNI recorded 108 accounts that had been blocked.

"So the total number of accounts blocked at the request of Kominfo and law enforcement officers from January 2023 to June 2024 reached 214 accounts," said Royke.

Furthermore, Royke explained, BNI had established a specific detection mechanism to identify accounts suspected of online gambling. This system employs special parameters designed to detect suspicious transaction patterns.

In this way, BNI can proactively prevent and handle transactions that violate the law, while protecting customers who are not involved. BNI also appeals to all its customers to be careful in making transactions and not to use banking services for online gambling activities.

According to Royke, BNI's actions not only indicate compliance with current legislation, but also the bank's commitment to maintaining its reputation as a responsible financial institution. BNI's commitment to combatting online gambling is also in line with President Joko Widodo's direction to eradicate online gambling that disturbs the community.

"Through consistent efforts in handling sensitive issues such as online gambling, BNI strives to create a safe and trusted banking environment for all customers," Royke concluded.
