(15/7/2024) - JAKARTA - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI received appreciation from Commission VI of the House of Representatives (DPR) for its solid performance amid the challenging global situation. BNI is considered consistent in channeling financing to the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector and shows a strong commitment to encourage MSMEs to upgrade.
In a Hearing Meeting (RDP) at the DPR Building, Jakarta, Member of Commission VI DPR from the PKS faction Amin AK expressed his appreciation to BNI for its achievements amid the dynamics of global economic conditions. According to Amin, BNI was able to overcome various external challenges that shook the Indonesian economy.
“We appreciate BNI's performance for its good achievements and of course the challenge is to improve even better achievements,” Amin said.
In line with its improving performance, Commission VI of the House of Representatives encourages BNI to increase the portion of financing in the MSME sector. This aims to help MSMEs to not only exist in the domestic market, but also to compete in the global arena.
Amin also emphasized that MSMEs are the backbone of the Indonesian economy and have proven to be able to survive the economic crisis. “We hope that BNI's partiality towards MSMEs will be increased, not decreased, this is the national foundation, proven during the crisis MSMEs survived,” he explained.
For this reason, Amin encouraged BNI to increase the distribution of financing in the MSME sector by offering more affordable credit. This is expected to help MSMEs run their businesses better and encourage their growth.
"How our MSMEs can obtain low-cost finance. The distribution of People's Business Credit (KUR) in 2023 is still IDR 37 trillion below target, with just 4.6 million debtors compared to 64 million MSMEs. This is a challenge for banks; hopefully, banks will make a breakthrough and favor MSMEs," he said.
