Malang Animation Studio Breaks into Global Market Thanks to BNI Financing Support

(22/10/2025) - Financial support and assistance from PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI has once again yielded positive results. One of its partners, Role Play Studio, has successfully penetrated the global market through international animation projects such as Hot Wheels, Boboiboy, Megamato, and Seven Deadly Sins.

The Malang-based studio, which has been operating for 11 years, was one of two BNI-fostered MSMEs that participated in the Mass Agreement Exhibition for 800,000 MSME Debtors (KUR, PMI, KPP) & Job Creation at the Dyandra Convention Center, Surabaya. The event was attended by a number of ministers and high-ranking state officials as part of efforts to expand access to productive financing throughout Indonesia.

BNI Institutional Banking Director Eko Setyo Nugroho explained that BNI not only acts as a financing provider, but also as a strategic partner that provides sustainable business assistance.

“BNI is committed to being a strategic partner for MSME players so that they can upgrade and expand market access. We want to ensure that every financing provided has a real impact on business growth, employment, and community welfare,” said Eko.

Through People's Business Credit (KUR) with a tenor of up to five years, BNI helped Role Play Studio strengthen its working capital while developing its business in the increasingly competitive animation sector. Currently, Role Play Studio has recorded a turnover of up to IDR1 billion per year and employs more than 40 young creative talents, consisting of graphic designers, illustrators, animators, and scriptwriters.

Role Play Studio CEO Agus Setyawan said that financial support from BNI is an important factor in maintaining the sustainability of labor-intensive creative businesses.

"Support from banks like BNI has been incredibly helpful, especially since the animation industry's primary challenge is working capital. With KUR and mentoring, we can continue to operate and work on global-scale projects," Agus said.

In addition to financing, BNI also provides business management training and access to digital services, including utilizing BNIdirect for efficient financial transaction management. This effort is part of BNI's strategy to expand the digital ecosystem for creative MSMEs, ensuring they are better prepared to compete internationally.

Role Play Studio, operating in the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (KEK) in Malang, is also connected to the Creative District, which encompasses three main areas: coding, animation, and film. Overall, this ecosystem has accommodated more than 200 creative workers in Malang and the surrounding area.

One of the studio's biggest projects was the first season of Hot Wheels, a 10-episode 3D animated series released the previous year. This success cemented Role Play Studio's reputation as a major player in the national animation industry, capable of competing globally.

BNI's steps in assisting MSMEs such as Role Play Studio reflect the company's commitment to strengthening the competitiveness of the national creative industry while expanding productive employment opportunities.

With inclusive and sustainable banking support, BNI strives to encourage more Indonesian creative economy players to penetrate the global market and become drivers of future economic growth.
