The Story of BNI Helping a Customer Buy Their First Home After 14 Years of Marriage

After 14 years of married life, Terry Alfrits Wagiu finally realized his dream of owning his first home. The journalist from Tomohon purchased a residence at Grazia Residence 2 using a subsidized home loan (KPR) facility from PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BNI.

Terry was among the beneficiaries of the mass contract signing and key handover event for 62,710 housing units, held simultaneously by the government on Thursday (30/7/2026).

His story drew the attention of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, during a video conference dialogue connecting the event's main venue at the Puri Delta City Side housing complex in Batang Regency, Central Java, with Tomohon.

During the conversation, the President inquired about the condition of the house Terry currently occupies, ranging from the quality of the building to the supporting facilities in the residential area.

“It’s excellent, Sir, really good. The water supply is steady, the building is sturdy, and security is good too—it’s well-lit at night, Sir,” said Terry in response to the President’s question.

Terry also took the opportunity to express his gratitude for finally owning a home of his own after waiting for more than a decade.

“I also want to express my heartfelt thanks, Sir. Thanks to your program, I’ve been able to own a home. After 14 years of marriage, I’ve finally got this house,” he said.

Separately, BNI Commercial Banking Director Muhammad Iqbal, stated that Terry’s experience illustrates the impact of access to home financing on people's lives. For many families, a home is not merely an asset; it also provides a sense of security, certainty, and a foundation for building the future.

“Terry’s story serves as a tangible example of how access to housing finance can directly benefit the improvement of community well-being,” said Iqbal in a written statement.

According to him, BNI—as one of the banks distributing subsidized home loans—continues to support the Three Million Homes Program by providing financing for low-income individuals.

“BNI remains committed to supporting the Three Million Homes Program by providing easy, affordable, and sustainable financing access for low-income communities,” he said.

Iqbal added that BNI's involvement in the mass contract signing and key handover ceremony is part of a synergy among the government, banks, developers, and other stakeholders to expand access to home ownership.

The event was attended by the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, Maruarar Sirait; BP Tapera Commissioner Heru Pudyo Nugroho; senior executives from the Association of State-Owned Banks (Himbara); and representatives from distributing banks, developers, and beneficiaries.

Terry’s story exemplifies how subsidized home financing can help Indonesian families acquire their first homes. Through its support for the housing sector, BNI strives to expand opportunities for people to own decent housing while building a more secure and well-planned life.
