Strengthening Diaspora Ecosystem, BNI Xpora collaborates with the House of Indonesia Econesia

Jakarta, 17 December 2021 -- The Indonesian Diaspora ecosystem has grown quite rapidly in recent years. This trend also opens up strong global business potential to encourage national micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

In line with this trend, PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero), Tbk. (BNI) also cooperates with the House of Indonesia Econesia or HOI.

HOI is a business entity managed by the Indonesian diaspora in Sydney Australia which has been actively importing products from Indonesia and marketed in Australia.

The MoU signing procession was carried out by the Treasury and International Director of BNI, Henry Panjaitan, and the Director of HOI, Vidi Vinandar at the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs in Jakarta, Friday (17/12/2021).

The procession was witnessed by the Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs (Menkop UKM), Teten Masduki, and the President Director of BNI, Royke Tumilaar. Also present were the Secretary General of Dekranas, Gati Wibawaningsih, and the Director General of National Export Development of the Ministry of Trade, Didi Sumedi and the MSME Business Director of BNI, Muhammad Iqbal.

Teten said, he believes that Indonesian SMEs are able to compete in the international market, many SMEs have implemented eco-friendly and sustainability principles.

In his opinion, many Indonesian SMEs have met the standards or requirements set by Australia such as labeling and packaging provisions, quarantine procedures such as the Biosecurity Act and Imported Food Control Act or consumer protection, namely the Australian Consumer Law.

He hopes that BNI Xpora can become a partner for MSMEs that not only provides sources of export financing but also supports market expansion and assistance for MSMEs, both domestically and overseas.

"I hope this HOI can function optimally and become the spearhead of offering and selling superior MSME products in the form of goods and services as well as being a builder for the design and types of products that are in accordance with the requirements, tastes and demands of the local market," he added.

On this occasion, Royke Tumilaar said, in addition to supporting the Diaspora ecosystem, with the collaboration of various parties such as the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs and HOI, national MSME players will have a superior value proposition and more relevant features.

"We hope that with the collaboration of BNI and HOI Sydney, various things, such as the procurement of superior Indonesian products in a sustainable manner and an opportunity for MSMEs to advance to class, so that 500,000 export MSME players can be achieved by 2030," he said.

In addition, he added, Indonesia is ranked 15th in the world with the largest number of migrants in the world reaching around 8 million people, of which around 2.2% are in Australia.

Along with the large spread of the Indonesian diaspora, this potential can be utilized to boost Indonesia's export performance, therefore, the diaspora also supports other economic aspects such as contributions to receipt of remittances, business promotion and investment.

Then, there are also social benefits from the role of the diaspora, namely to encourage the promotion of Indonesian culture and as an instrument of capacity building for the country of origin.

"BNI as an international bank has the task of assisting Indonesian businesses to penetrate the global market. Through BNI Xpora, MSMEs obtain support in the form of increasing production capacity and quality, education in preparing financial reports, to support for access to marketing products overseas through business matchmaking with buyers in the global market," he said.

Continuing, Vidi Vinandar is also optimistic that the diaspora ecosystem in Australia can be more active in assisting Indonesian MSMEs penetrate the global market in order to move up their class.

"We believe we can help market and import Indonesian products. Moreover, we have more than 30 years of experience in facilitating several Indonesian companies, including BUMN," he said.
