22/01/2024. Fraud involving lottery prizes in BNI’s name is disturbing the public. The perpetrator deliberately distributed a phishing website link to attract victims. Social media users have also become easy targets for perpetrators.
PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI confirmed that the distribution of the link was a fraud and appealed to the public to always be alert.
BNI Network & Services Director Ronny Venir noted that information regarding phony lottery programs using BNI’s name has recently become increasingly popular on social media with the tagline "Prize Draw Festival".
“We urge the public to be more careful. We confirm it is a scam. We don't have an ongoing prize draw program," he said on Wednesday (17/1/2024).
Ronny explained that the perpetrator's mode of fraud is by creating a fake account in BNI’a name on Facebook and making a post with the narrative "Prize Draw Festival" from BNI. From this post, potential victims are directed to click on the phishing website.
From this link, the perpetrator asked the potential victim to fill in their cellphone number, debit card credentials such as card number, expiry date, CVV code, up to the total balance in the account, then followed by a form to entering the OTP code. This can result in financial losses for everyone who fills it out.
Not only that, the fake account in BNI’s name made a post by taking the latest content from the official BNI account and then inserted the narrative of a "Prize Draw Festival" which leads to a phishing website.
Ronny stressed that BNI currently does not offer a prize draw program. If you receive suspect information, please notify BNI at 1500046. Meanwhile, the official BNI URL to learn about BNI programs is https://www.bni.co.id/id-id/beranda/promoacara/promoperbankan/articleid/21588.
"BNI's official Instagram account is @bni46, while the official Facebook account is BNI, that's all, so other than that, please don't believe it," he concluded.
