Strengthening Financial Literacy and Inclusion, BNI Educates Waste Manager Community

(14/6/2024) - JAKARTA - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI is committed to supporting the financial literacy and inclusion program advocated by the government. Together with the Financial Services Authority (OJK), BNI participated in the Financial Education program for Waste Manager and Waste Care Communities in Bantargebang Sub-Regency, Bekasi, West Java.

This program aims to improve people's knowledge, skills, confidence, and future financial management behavior. Furthermore, the program attempts to improve people's understanding of banking goods and services, as well as potential financial hazards.

This educational event was held at the Multipurpose Building of the Sumur Batu Village Office, Bantargebang, Bekasi City, West Java, Friday (14/6/2024).

Present at the event were the Chief Executive of the Financial Services Business Actors' Behavior Supervisory Agency, Education and Consumer Protection of the OJK Friderica Widyasari Dewi, Acting Mayor of Bekasi Raden Gani Muhammad, Director of Waste Reduction of the Directorate General of Waste Management, Waste, and Hazardous and Toxic Materials (PSLB3) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia Vinda Damayanti Ansjar, and BNI Director of Network and Services Ronny Venir.

In his speech, Ronny Venir expressed BNI's commitment as a state-owned bank to be proactive in providing financial education and literacy to the public. BNI is also committed to providing information related to the ease of accessing banking products and services.

In line with this commitment, BNI implements Sustainable Banking, especially Green Banking, through the Waste Bank program. This program aims to increase the company's concern and responsibility towards the environment and society, especially in waste management.

"Waste Bank is our breakthrough that has been successfully implemented in several regions. We want this Waste Bank to be a model that can be a positive example for business actors or MSMEs," said Ronny.

The existence of Waste Bank facilitates transactions and savings. People can sort and deposit waste on a regular basis, and the value of the waste is turned into a nominal savings. Recording is done online using Electronic Data Capture (EDC) Agen46, thus waste conversion is directly recorded in the savings book.

BNI also opens opportunities for waste managers to join BNI Agen46 with various benefits that can be obtained. This is in line with OJK regulations on increasing financial literacy and inclusion in the Financial Services sector for consumers and the community.

The presence of BNI Agen46 demonstrates BNI's strong commitment to increasing financial inclusion in Indonesia and offering opportunities for people who have small and medium businesses to participate in the banking ecosystem. By becoming agents, people not only earn more money, but also broaden the reach of financial services in their own communities.

As a form of BNI's commitment in providing easy banking access for waste managers, BNI provides Agen46 certificates and Business Savings to two selected participants. BNI also provides BNI KUR financing support to local MSMEs engaged in waste management.

"We are not only opening access for financial transactions, but also bridging the access gap to financial services between urban and rural areas. This is consistent with the commitment of the government and financial regulators in expanding financial inclusion throughout the country," said Ronny.
