Raymond/Joaquin's Brilliant Debut at BWF Super 500 Level

The badminton pair Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin successfully reached the top position of the podium of the Australian Open 2025 Men's Doubles, which was held at the State Sports Centre, Sydney-Australia from 16 to 23 November 2025. This achievement completes the brilliant record of the results of the development of young Indonesian athletes who are fully supported by PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said that the victory is clear evidence that the tiered coaching and athlete regeneration by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) is able to produce talents who can compete on the world stage with top performance from the start of their professional careers.

"We are proud to be part of the journey of Indonesia's future athletes, including Raymond and Joaquin, who demonstrate that hard work, discipline, and the support of the right coaching ecosystem can maintain a champion tradition at the world level," Okki said in a written statement.

BNI's support was also present at this historic moment for the Raymond/Joaquin pair, who had just made their debut in the BWF World Tour Super 500 and immediately managed to win the championship.

Raymond Indra is a Bandung-born badminton player. The 21-year-old athlete joined the PBSI national training camp in 2025 and is known as a talented player with stable game control and tight defense. His youth career began at a local badminton club in elementary school, before eventually breaking through to the national level and earning opportunities to compete in various international tournaments.

Meanwhile, Nikolaus Joaquin, affectionately known as Joaquin, was born in Jakarta on September 14, 2005, and is now 20 years old. He started playing badminton at the age of six, idolizing Fajar Alfian as his inspiration. Joaquin officially joined the PBSI national training camp in 2025 after previously partnering with several players such as Muhammad Al Farizi and Verrel Yustin Mulia.

Since being paired together, Raymond/Joaquin have shown remarkable progress. In addition to defending their BWF Indonesia Masters Super 100 title 2025, the pair also finished runner-up at the Korea Masters 2025 last week. They are known for their strong defense, making it difficult for opponents to penetrate their attacking patterns.

In the Australian Open 2025 final, Raymond/Joaquin put on a solid performance, overcoming pressure from fellow Indonesian pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, 22-20, 10-21, 21-18. Consistent rhythm, tempo control, and quick responses under pressure were key to their victory.

This combination of performances has earned Raymond/Joaquin the nickname of the successors to Kevin Sanjaya/Marcus Gideon. Besides having been coached by the same coach, Chafidz Yusuf, the pair are also known for their aggressive playing style, a hallmark of world-class Indonesian men's doubles pairs.

Okki stated that BNI remains committed to supporting the development of young athletes through synergy with PBSI, including facilities, competitions, and long-term development programs. He believes Indonesia must not only maintain its winning tradition but also prepare successors for each generation.

"We want to ensure that top talents like Raymond and Joaquin receive optimal support so they can continue to bring glory to the Indonesian nation in various global tournaments. BNI's support is not only for today's achievements, but also for the future of Indonesian badminton," Okki added.

With concrete support for national sports development, BNI hopes that more young Indonesian athletes will be able to demonstrate world-class quality, while strengthening Indonesia's position as one of the world's leading badminton powers.
