Beware of Cybercrime: BNI Boosts Digital Security Literacy for BNIdirect Customers

PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BNI) reminds customers to remain vigilant against potential cybercrime as digital transaction activity increases, particularly when using the BNIdirect service.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said that personal data protection is a crucial aspect of ensuring the security of digital banking transactions. Data breaches not only pose a risk to information confidentiality but can also result in financial losses and damage to customers’ reputations.

“Personal data protection is the cornerstone of ensuring that every transaction is conducted safely and securely. By safeguarding data security, customers can minimize various cybercrime risks, such as hacking, malware, and phishing,” Okki said in a written statement.

He added that customers need to understand the types of data that must be kept confidential when using BNIdirect services, whether for personal or business transactions. This information includes account details, Company ID (CID), user ID, password, token code, as well as registered email addresses and phone numbers.

According to Okki, transaction data is also a primary target for cybercriminals, who often use phishing and social engineering tactics to gain unauthorized access to customer accounts.

For this reason, BNI urges customers never to share sensitive information with anyone. The company emphasizes that BNI never requests information such as passwords, PINs, or OTP codes through any channel.

In order to protect their accounts, customers are advised to always access services through official BNIdirect channels and avoid suspicious links that may lead to fake websites. Using strong, unique passwords for each login and updating them regularly are also important steps in maintaining account security.

Customers are also reminded to ensure they use a secure internet connection by avoiding public Wi-Fi when conducting transactions, and to be on the lookout for suspicious messages via email, SMS, or WhatsApp that request personal information.

With the growing threat of cybercrime, BNI emphasizes that data security is a shared responsibility between the bank and its customers. By implementing these preventive measures, customers are expected to safeguard their transactions while minimizing risks in the digital world.

BNI also asserts that awareness and discipline in protecting personal data are key to creating a secure, convenient, and trustworthy digital transaction ecosystem for all customers. For more information, customers can visit BNI’s official website at www.bni.co.id/id-id/
