PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BNI) is expanding access to digital financial services for Indonesian students pursuing their education in Hong Kong. This support includes account opening, activation of the "wondr by BNI" app, multi-currency services, and a special debit card created in collaboration with the Indonesian Students Association in Hong Kong.
The service is arranged while students are still in Indonesia, allowing them to prepare for their transaction and financial management needs well in advance of their studies overseas.
BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo stated that relocating to another country for education requires not only academic readiness but also adequate financial planning.
"We want Indonesian students to begin their study journey with greater peace of mind, knowing that their financial needs have been addressed before leaving the country. BNI offers a service ecosystem that makes it easier for them to open accounts, access digital banking services, and conduct transactions abroad—all in a more convenient and secure manner," said Okki in a written statement.
This service was facilitated in conjunction with the Pre-Departure Gathering 2026. During the event, BNI assisted participants in opening accounts, activating *wondr by BNI*, and completing the registration process to become *wondr* multi-currency users.
Students also receive education on utilizing digital services for daily transactions and managing their finances while staying in Hong Kong.
This support is reinforced by the presence of BNI Hong Kong, which will distribute the PPI-HK co-branded multi-currency debit card to Indonesian students. The card integrates with BNI’s digital services to facilitate international transactions and provide access to essential banking services.
"The collaboration with PPI-HK is part of BNI's commitment to continuously strengthen services for the Indonesian diaspora across various countries," said Okki.
Strengthening these digital services and international networks also aligns with the direction of state-owned enterprise (SOE) transformation under the coordination of Danantara Indonesia. BNI strives to provide relevant banking solutions for Indonesians across various countries, including university students.
Through a service ecosystem established prior to departure, BNI hopes that Indonesian students can pursue their education in Hong Kong with more convenient transaction access and better-planned financial management.
