PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BNI), together with Bank Indonesia (BI), is strengthening consumer protection education and financial literacy regarding transaction security in the digital era and vigilance against various cybercrime schemes.

This initiative was realized through a talk show on consumer protection and financial literacy titled "Strengthening Customer Protection Against Cybercrime in the Transformation Era," held as part of the BNI wondrX 2026 event series at ICE BSD, Tangerang.

The talk show is part of the collaboration between BNI and BI in strengthening the Joint Consumer Protection Education Movement (GEBER PK). The activity targets visitors to BNI wondrX 2026, including students, through panel discussions featuring speakers from Bank Indonesia and BNI.

Separately, BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo stated that the rise in digital transaction activity needs to be balanced with public understanding of how to safeguard data and transaction security.

“Digital transformation offers convenience for the public in carrying out various financial activities. However, this convenience comes with risks that require vigilance. Therefore, education and literacy are crucial in helping the public recognize various cybercrime schemes and become wiser in safeguarding their data and financial transactions,” said Okki in a written statement.

During the talk show session, One Yusril Fikar, Deputy Director of Payment System Surveillance and Consumer Protection Department at Bank Indonesia, explained that digital transformation has brought about significant changes in how the public conducts financial activities.

Various payment system innovations, such as QRIS and BI-FAST, have made transactions increasingly convenient, fast, inclusive, and efficient. On the other hand, technological advancements have also been accompanied by the emergence of various forms of cybercrime.

Perpetrators can exploit technology as well as the victim's psychology through social engineering practices to obtain personal information or access that can be used to commit crimes.

Therefore, the public is urged to recognize the signs of fraud, safeguard the confidentiality of personal data and banking information, and avoid blindly trusting parties claiming to represent banks or official institutions.

BNI also continues to urge the public to verify the accuracy of information before making decisions, especially when receiving suspicious messages, links, or transaction requests.

According to Okki, this educational initiative is also part of BNI’s commitment to supporting public access to information. It aligns with the spirit of the activities marking International Right to Know Day—observed annually on September 28—by encouraging the public to obtain accurate and relevant information as a basis for decision-making.

Through collaboration with Bank Indonesia, BNI will continue to strengthen consumer protection and digital security literacy, ensuring the public better understands how to transact safely and is capable of recognizing various risks amidst the rapid development of digital financial services.
