BNI Strengthens Banking Intermediation to Support National Economic Growth

PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BNI, continues to strengthen its banking intermediation function to support business activities and national economic growth. This is being pursued through the provision of measured financing to productive sectors, while simultaneously maintaining asset quality, liquidity, and capital adequacy.

This effort aligns with the policy direction of Bank Indonesia (BI), which continues to maintain a balance between stability and economic growth, including through interest rate policies and the easing of banking liquidity.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo stated that, as part of the Association of State-Owned Banks (HIMBARA), BNI plays a role in supporting economic activity by providing financing to businesses and productive sectors.

"BNI continues to optimize its intermediation function so that bank financing can support business activities and investments, while simultaneously fostering job creation. These efforts are carried out while maintaining credit quality and the company's resilience," said Okki in a written statement.

During the Board of Governors Meeting on October 20–21, 2026, Bank Indonesia (BI) maintained the BI-Rate at 5.75% and the Lending Facility rate at 6.50%, while raising the Deposit Facility rate to 5.00%.

Bank Indonesia (BI) is also strengthening its macroprudential policy, including through a gradual reduction in the Statutory Reserve Requirement (SRR) starting in November 2026. This policy is expected to provide greater liquidity headroom for banks to support the extension of credit and financing to the real sector.

For conventional commercial banks, the statutory reserve requirement (SRR) will be lowered from 9% to 8% effective November 1, 2026, and to 7% effective December 1, 2026. Meanwhile, for sharia commercial banks and sharia business units, the statutory reserve requirement will be reduced from 7.5% to 6.5% in November 2026 and to 5.5% in December 2026.

According to Okki, this additional liquidity space can support the banking sector's capacity to extend financing, provided that it is accompanied by the application of prudential principles and adequate risk management.

In line with this direction, BNI focuses its financing on productive sectors that possess healthy business prospects and are capable of driving an increase in business capacity, investment, and employment absorption.

As a state-owned enterprise within the Danantara Indonesia ecosystem, BNI continues to strengthen its role in supporting the growth of the real sector through the provision of sound and measured financing. This direction aligns with the transformation of state-owned enterprises, which aims to enhance competitiveness, improve efficiency, and increase contributions toward the growth of the real sector and the national economy.

In addition to providing financing, BNI also supports economic activity by strengthening its transaction services. "wondr by BNI" caters to the needs of individual

Okki added that the strengthening of intermediation must continue to be balanced with disciplined risk management, especially amidst global and domestic economic dynamics.

"Through the distribution of high-quality credit and by fostering synergy with the government, regulators, and fellow members of HIMBARA, BNI will continue to support financing for productive sectors and the national development agenda," said Okki.

Moving forward, BNI will continue to maintain a balance between loan growth, asset quality, liquidity, and capital, ensuring that its intermediation function operates in a sound and sustainable manner while contributing to national economic growth.
