25/10/2023. PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI is committed to being proactive in establishing a digital economy in Indonesia through the development of digital products that focus on the MSME sector and the diaspora.
BNI Wholesale and International Banking Director Silvano Rumantir said that Indonesia currently has tremendous potential in terms of the digital economy.
Transactions on digital platforms represent roughly 40 percent of the total digital economy transactions in ASEAN, reaching US$77 billion by 2022.
The figure grew 22 percent compared to 2021, and is even projected to continue and increase significantly to US$130 billion in 2025 and US$360 billion in 2030.
"Indonesia is ranked sixth in the world for the number of startups, Indonesia has 2,400 startups including one decacorn and 15 unicorns in sectors such as e-commerce, transportation, financial technology, tourism, and health. We will continue to encourage the strengthening of the digital economy in Indonesia through our various banking products," he remarked at the BNI Investor Daily Summit 2023, at Hutan Kota by Plataran, Jakarta, Tuesday (24/10/2023).
Silvano continued, MSMEs in Indonesia have the potential to continue to be maximized in order to boost the economy in Indonesia. Currently, there are more than 64 million MSMEs in Indonesia and are able to absorb around 97 percent of the Indonesian workforce and contribute 60 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
With this potential, Silvano said there is a huge potential for on boarding. Moreover, the government has plans to digitize at least 30 million MSMEs in the near future.
“We also want to continue to build a digital economy to build customer experience by providing end-to-end products not only in Indonesia but also internationally,” he explained.
Silvano conveyed, being a leading bank in the international market, BNI provides products that focus on everyday personal partners such as BNI Mobile Banking for individual customers and BNIDirect for corporate customers.
BNI also provides product development for the MSME and diaspora segments through BNI Xpora.
"We encourage MSMEs to go productive, go digital, and go global, including hibanks specifically working on the MSME sector, digitizing MSMEs, opening online market access and also providing financing and banking transactions for MSMEs. This is a business opportunity, which we can develop together for national economic development,” he concluded.
