PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BNI, prepares a credit relaxation policy for debtors affected by the disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. This policy is part of the synergy of state-owned enterprises under the coordination of Danantara Indonesia to support the community post-disaster economic recovery, in line with government and regulatory policies.
BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo stated that the credit restructuring policy aims at assisting debtors in the business banking and consumer segments located in disaster-affected designated areas by the Financial Services Authority (OJK). This policy will continue to be implemented while prioritizing banking prudence.
"BNI is committed to assisting debtors so they still have the opportunity to recover their financial condition and continue business activities after being impacted by the disaster," said Okki in a written statement.
Okki explained that the credit relaxation policy refers to OJK Letter Number S-47/D.03/2025 dated December 10, 2025, regarding special treatment for credit or financing in certain areas and/or sectors affected by disasters. In that provision, OJK sets a special treatment period of three years, starting from December 10, 2025, to December 9, 2028. After that period ends, credit quality assessment will revert to the provisions of POJK Number 40/POJK.03/2019 or applicable regulations.
Furthermore, the implementation of credit restructuring refers to POJK Number 19 of 2022 concerning Special Treatment for Financial Service Institutions in Certain Regions and Sectors Affected by Disasters. Within that framework, BNI provides a number of restructuring schemes that can be tailored to the debtor's conditions, including deferral of principal and/or interest payments, granting of a grace period, extension of the credit term, interest and/or provision relief, and even the provision of new funds in accordance with applicable regulations.
With the implementation of this policy, the credit quality status of disaster-affected debtors can be maintained during the special treatment period from the regulator. Nevertheless, BNI will still conduct a thorough assessment of the debtor's profile, capacity, and business capabilities to ensure that restructuring facilities are provided to those who are truly directly affected by the disaster.
"Through this policy, we hope to ease the burden on the community and business actors in the affected areas so that the economic recovery process can proceed more quickly and sustainably," concluded Okki.
Okki further stated that the special treatment policy has been in effect since December 17, 2025, and continues to be socialized to all Regional and Branch Offices so that it can be optimally utilized by debtors in need.
Through its measured financing support and in accordance with regulatory provisions, BNI, together with the SOE Big family, affirms its commitment to be present, move quickly, and work together in assisting the people of Sumatra to recover from the disaster, while also maintaining business continuity and regional economic stability sustainably.
