BNI Promotes Environmental Education as a Foundation for Sustainable Beach Clean-Ups in Bali

PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BNI) emphasized that environmental protection efforts are not simply a one-off symbolic action, but require ongoing education and behavioral change. This commitment was demonstrated through educational activities on waste management and environmentally friendly behavior for the community as part of the BNI Go Green Dare to Clean Mertasari Beach program in Bali on Saturday. (7/2/2026).

The activity, held at Mertasari Beach in Denpasar, was part of a collaboration between BNI and the Malu Dong Community. In addition to the beach cleanup, the program also focused on educating people about waste sorting at the source and consistently implementing an environmentally friendly lifestyle at the household and community levels.

Malu Dong Community Founder Komang Sudiarta appreciated BNI's active involvement in promoting long-term environmental movements. He believes that the waste problem cannot be solved with short-term actions alone but must be accompanied by the formation of new habits within the community.

"Waste management can't be a one-time effort. It must be sustainable. Therefore, education is key to developing new habits in waste management, especially starting at home," said Komang.

He added that as a global tourism destination, Bali requires collective action to maintain environmental cleanliness and well-being. He noted that the waste problem not only impacts the ecosystem but also the economy and the region's image.

In the educational session, participants were provided with a practical understanding of sorting organic and inorganic waste, an introduction to the concept of reduce, reuse, recycle (3R), and an invitation to reduce the use of single-use plastics in daily activities.

"Waste management is a shared responsibility. Households, communities, and corporations each have a role to play. Working together, the impact will be far greater," Komang continued.

Separately, BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said the environmental education activity was part of BNI's commitment to implementing the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program in a sustainable manner.

According to Okki, BNI not only encourages direct action activities, but also strives to assist the community in building a sustainable waste management ecosystem and encouraging behavioral changes towards a more environmentally friendly lifestyle.

"We believe that big changes start with small, consistent steps. Through collaboration with communities like Malu Dong, BNI aims to make a real impact while strengthening collective awareness of the importance of protecting the environment," Okki asserted.

Through this series of beach cleanup and environmental education activities, BNI affirms its role as a pioneer of sustainable finance that focuses not only on business performance, but also on social and environmental contributions that provide long-term added value for the community and the region.
