BNI Brings Hope to the Indonesian Team at the Thomas Cup 2026

The Indonesian National Badminton Team, supported by PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BNI), got off to a brilliant start on the first day of the Thomas Cup 2026.

A total of nine matches were held across three different sessions at Forum Horsens in Denmark, beginning on Friday, April 24, 2026. In the tournament, the Indonesian men’s team played their opening Group D match against Algeria, resulting in a decisive 5-0 victory for Indonesia.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said these positive results are clear evidence of the commitment of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI)—with support from BNI—to developing national badminton athletes.

“This is a positive start for the Indonesian team. We see this result as the fruit of the athletes’ and coaching staff’s hard work, as well as the consistent development efforts carried out by PBSI with the support of BNI,” Okki said in a written statement.

Indonesia's 5-0 victory was secured thanks to a solid performance across all categories.

The pair of Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin clinched victory with a dominant performance over Adel Hamek and Abdelaziz Ouchefoun, winning 21-4, 21-7. Earlier, the pair of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul dominated Abderrahmie Belarbi and Koceila Mammeri, winning 21-14, 21-8.

That result rounded out the Indonesian Thomas Cup team’s performance on the first day, following Jonatan Christie, Alwi Farhan, and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting’s 3-0 victory for Indonesia.

Jonatan Christie, affectionately known as Jojo, kicked off the victory by defeating Adel Hamek in straight sets with scores of 21-8, 21-16 in the men’s singles match.

Alwi Farhan and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting continued Indonesia’s dominance in men’s singles. Alwi Farhan defeated Abderrahmie Belarbi 21-8, 21-7, while Anthony Ginting defeated Abdelaziz Ouchefoun in straight sets, 21-8, 21-6.

“BNI will continue to support the development of young Indonesian badminton talent so they can excel on the international stage,” Okki emphasized.

This support also underscores the importance of BNI’s ongoing support for sports in the future to maintain Indonesia’s dominance in the global badminton scene.
