BNI Reminds Customers to Protect Sensitive Data and Beware of Digital Fraud

PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, or BNI, once again reminds customers not to share sensitive information with anyone, as various forms of digital fraud targeting banking service users—particularly digital channels such as BNIdirect—continue to rise.

BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo emphasized that the company never requests confidential customer information under any circumstances. Therefore, the public is urged to exercise greater caution regarding parties claiming to represent the bank.

“We remind customers never to share sensitive information with anyone, including those claiming to represent BNI, as this is part of a digital crime scheme,” Okki said in a written statement.

BNI has outlined several types of sensitive information that must be kept confidential, including passwords, company IDs, email addresses, PINs, OTP codes, and hard and soft token codes. This information must not be shared through any channel, including by phone, text message, email, or social media.

In addition, BNI emphasizes that it never asks for BNIdirect user IDs, does not send links via text messages or messaging apps for verification purposes, and does not ask customers to download specific apps—including remote desktop apps such as TeamViewer or AnyDesk—under the pretext of providing customer service assistance.

According to BNI, this practice is a common hallmark of digital fraud that uses social engineering to gain access to customer accounts. If customers notice any such signs, they are advised not to respond and to immediately verify the matter through official channels.

As a precautionary measure, BNI urges customers not to click on links from unknown sources, not to install apps from unverified sources, and to avoid using search engines to find solutions to problems such as forgotten passwords. Customers are advised to use the official feature on the BNIdirect login page to reset their passwords on their own.

Through these ongoing educational efforts, BNI hopes that the public will gain a better understanding of digital crime patterns and be able to protect their personal data on their own, thereby ensuring the security of banking transactions and continuing to build trust in digital services
