Jakarta, 17 October 2021 -- PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI encourages the exchange of Debit Cards that still use magnetic stripe with Debit Chip Cards as soon as possible. Given that the deadline for replacement is 30 November 2021 at the latest, debit card holder customers can only use Debit Chip Card when transacting through ATM machines.
"We hope that BNI customers immediately check the type of Debit card they have. For the security and convenience of transactions using debit card, immediately use the BNI Debit Chip," said BNI’s Consumer Business Director Corina Leyla Karnalies in Jakarta, Sunday (17 October 2021).
BNI itself has provided socialization to customers through various communication channels, namely BNI’s web site, social media, announcements at BNI Branch Offices and ATM machines, as well as direct information to customers via Email, WA, SMS Blast from the end of 2020 to September 2021.
“The replacement of Magnetic Stripe-based debit card into Chip is in accordance with Bank Indonesia regulations based on Bank Indonesia Circular Letter Number 17/52/DKSP dated 30 December 2015. Where all types of BNI Magnetic Stripe Debit Cards must be replaced, except for debit cards used for government programs. This replacement needs to be done in order to improve the security of debit card transactions, both from the customer side, shops/merchants, and the bank as a service provider,” said Corina.
Replacement of this magnetic stripe debit card can be done by visiting all the nearest BNI branch offices, both for those that have not been or have been deactivated by the Bank. Card replacement can also be done through BNI Digi CS, specifically for cards that have not been deactivated by the Bank without being charged. It's easy, just bring your e-KTP and the old debit card or savings book.
For customers who have replaced their magnetic stripe debit card with a chip debit card, they can enjoy cash back for the first transaction on their BNI chip debit card, both e-commerce transactions and transactions through EDC at merchants/stores and can enjoy various attractive offer programs at various leading merchants.
