BNI Supports Expansion of Indonesian Diaspora Restaurants in the Netherlands Through Diaspora Loan Program

(31/10/2025) - PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI continues to expand its role as a global bank from Indonesia by supporting diaspora businesses in various countries. Through the BNI Diaspora Loan program, BNI provides financing to VOF Waroeng Padang Lapek (WPL), a restaurant owned by the Indonesian diaspora in the Netherlands that serves Minang cuisine.

Located at Schoolstraat 35 Grote Markt, Den Haag Centrum, this restaurant has been one of the city's popular culinary destinations since it was established in 2020. Under the ownership of Suprapti and her family, Waroeng Padang Lapek has grown rapidly and now operates a central kitchen at Mercuriusweg 70, The Hague, which serves as a food production and distribution center to maintain consistency in taste and operational efficiency.

BNI strengthened WPL's business expansion by providing new credit facilities worth EUR 228,750 or around IDR3.9 billion, which was signed on October 15, 2025. These facilities enable WPL to purchase a central kitchen property that was previously leased, as a strategic step to strengthen its long-term business structure.

The credit agreement was signed in the Netherlands and witnessed by BNI Deputy Director Alexandra Askandar, BNI London General Manager Gandipa Jaya, and BNI Amsterdam Chief Representative Dwi Wibowo. Representing WPL were Suprapti, her husband Tony Ochtman, and their son Jordan Syah Antonio Ochtman.

“The Diaspora Loan Program is a tangible form of BNI's support for Indonesian diaspora entrepreneurs so that they can grow and bring the flavors of the archipelago to the global stage,” said Alexandra Askandar in a written statement.

This new financing facility continues the business relationship that has been established between BNI Amsterdam and Waroeng Padang Lapek since November 2022, when BNI first disbursed a loan of EUR 50,000 or around IDR 850 million through the same program. The funds were used to increase production capacity and procure professional kitchen equipment.

The BNI Diaspora Loan Program is a strategic initiative designed to support Indonesian diaspora entrepreneurs abroad so that they can grow sustainably. This program not only provides access to financing, but also includes financial education and business assistance, so that the diaspora can manage their businesses professionally and be globally competitive.

“BNI will continue to support the business potential of the Indonesian diaspora in various countries so that they can grow stronger and become the pride of the nation,” Alexandra concluded.

Through this support, BNI reaffirms its role as a strategic partner for the Indonesian diaspora abroad, not only as a financial service provider, but also as part of the successful journey of entrepreneurs who introduce Indonesian culture and cuisine to the world. The support for Waroeng Padang Lapek is clear evidence of how BNI helps the Indonesian diaspora realize their big dreams on the international stage.
